Webkinz Educates Kids on File-Sharing

There is no doubt that p2p file sharing is hitting the mainstream. Even young children are expected to know about it, if evidence from Webkinz is anything to go by.

Webkinz, for those that don’t have young children, are immensely popular stuffed toys that come with an online code, which allows you to play with a digital representation of your toy online. Think of it as a MMO for pre-teens.

In one of the activities, questions are asked, and credits are awarded based on the answers. One question asks about large downloads (larger pic).

While it might not be wholly accurate, it is aimed at the younger audience, and at least brings some exposure to torrents. With kids as young as 5 learning about the existence of torrents, it will be an uphill struggle for Big Copyright to force them to subsidize their business models.

  • Rofl, that’s hillarious.

  • i guess a programmer was having fun that day.

  • LULZ! While a large file is not a torrent, and in fact torrents are tiny files, its nice to see some recognition.
