Canada is planning to reform its copyright law and if the entertainment industries have their way, the rights and privacy of consumers will be thrown overboard. That is, unless Canadians have their voices heard.

Last week, TorrentFreak reported on the Canadian copyright consultation which was scheduled to conclude this past weekend. Canadians were being squeezed by the recording and movie industry associations on the one side (seeking a Canadian DMCA and three strikes and you’re out policies) and copyright collectives on the other (seeking new levies on iPods and Internet usage).

If you missed last night’s deadline, there is still time to learn more and craft your own submission, use a form letter, or send out a quick email. The government has just announced that there is a 48 hour extension on submissions to the copyright consultation.

While the discussion forum has closed, Canadians now have until Tuesday night to submit their views on copyright. There were many new submissions of note posted online over the weekend including Canadian-based isoHunt. If you are Canadian, you’ve got two days to ensure that your voice is heard.

Please tell all your Canadian friends to help out!

isoHunt has been one of the leading BitTorrent search engines since 2004. The site has millions of active users, who today find that the site is inaccessible for unknown reasons.

Since a few hours isoHunt users haven’t been able to access their favorite torrent site. The site currently produces an SQL error which seems to be related to the forum software it’s running.

FreakBits contacted the isoHunt team and we will update this post as soon as they reply. For those who are worried, the downtime is merely technical and not related to any of the legal cases the site is involved in.

Update: isoHunt is working on a fix, should be back soon.

Update: And they’re back!

This week the team tackled another problem, namely, how to find the right torrent more effectively.

isoHunt‘s founder Gary Fung told FreakBits that they made several changes to the search algorithms resulting in a superior quality of the search results. The changes should make it easier for the site’s users to find what they are looking for.

Aside from the improved results, the team also added option to narrow down the results to a specific source, Gary explained on Facebook.

isoHunt is currently the third largest torrent site ranked by the number of daily users.

isoHunt has been one of the leading BitTorrent search engines since 2004. Despite the fact the site’s founder Gary Fung is involved in legal battles with the MPAA as well as the CRIA, the site keeps on expanding and adding more torrents to its index.

The isoHunt team recently updated its indexing code and performed a thorough re-crawl of most of the BitTorrent sites that they index, with an impressive result.

In just a few days the number of torrent files indexed by isoHunt doubled from 1.65 million to 3.49 million. These torrents link to 86.61 million files and total a massive 2766.18 Terabyte.

Gary was kind enough to share the index graph of the last 12 months with FreakBits, which clearly shows the jump towards the end.
