Scene-Base Admin Raided, Bailed
On November 12th, Private Tracker site Scene-Base went offline. The page replaced by a stern warning that the site was down, with a link to the IRC channel. The topic in the channel?
“Site Down F**ked over by some Jealous d**khead”
According to those present in IRC, the site owner, RikT, was awoken at 3am with a police raid. RikT was taken to the police station, and his desktop confiscated. He was then bailed until November 15th.
The buzz around the channel, including amongst some of the ops, was that someone jealous of how well the site had been doing in tracker racing, had ‘ratted’ to the police, causing the raid (but such claims should always be taken lightly). Scene-base carried, as the name implies, mostly scene releases, always a high-priority target for Copyright Enforcers.
However, all may not be as it seems. Today, RikT told FreakBits that it was nothing to do with the site at all, but was to do with an aquintance fingering him for counterfeit CDs. He has been bailed for another 28 days while investigations continue.
However there is no confirmation from any other sources. Enquires to the police have, as yet, gone un-answered, and the actions of Lokitorrent in 2005 has meant that any such investigation must contain outside confirmation. Some of the Scene-base admins also said they would start a new tracker, but no news on that. Either way, it brings into question again the percieved ‘safety’ of private trackers.
In the mean time, RikT has a message for the community, that he “dont want any publicity… …[and will] just let it all go and take it as a lesson learend[sic].”

Fail typo is fail… And if he really doesn’t want publicity then why the bloody hell are you guys writing a story on it… oy
why cant you people respect the wishes of this guy. I know him and for the last few days he been trying to stay out of he way. But there are certain individuals that wouldnt leave it alone and published things without his consent. By this I mean the post on filenetworks and here also.
Think this siad it all really,
“In the mean time, RikT has a message for the community, that he “dont want any publicity… …[and will] just let it all go and take it as a lesson learend”
But still this got published :-( no respect for anyones wishes at all!!
There were inflamatory and in the end inaccurate statements made on IRC, on the website, and via twitter by the admins of the site, which many members would have read. Now, had such statements not been made, it would have been a different story, but one of our researchers stayed in the irc channel for 4 days, and heard lots about it being down to scene tracker racers who had a grudge or similar. As such, it’s out duty to at least make sure the story as it later appears to be, is correct.
Had RikT really wanted privacy, then the statements in the public view should not have been made in the first place.
Policeman is a bendo
I really hope he was selling these counterfeit CDs.
That would be…lame, to say the least.
wasn’t*
If you run such a site why oh why do these owners seem to think it ok to partake in the ectivities of the users ????
If you run such a site you must stay whiter then white in your home life….
