Is Your Anonymous BitTorrent Really Secure?
Hundreds and thousands of BitTorrent users have taken measures to hide their identity when they are downloading. But, can they really be sure that your VPN or anonymizing software is hiding their IP-address? Now they can.
CheckMyTorrentIP is a free service that allows BitTorrent users who use an anonymous connection to verify that their setup is secure.
“Anonymizing services like VPNs and Proxies aren’t always 100% effective so this tool helps users harden their setups,” the founder of the site told FreakBits.
There are many applications and web based tools that display your IP-address, but there can not always test your BitTorrent connection accurately. With CheckMyTorrentIP you can, the founder said.
The service gives users an unique torrent which they can use to confirm that their line is secured. Users can check their IP on the website and it will also be displayed in their torrent client, so they can monitor their connection without going to the website.

I don’t hide I just use ipfilter and peerblock with router firewall etc..
@Yatti420: And? Your crappy blocklist doesn’t work and a “router firewall” doesn’t hide your ip…
OT:
The only reason a VPN/Proxy should not work, would be because the user had made some wrong/bad settings.

What if the VPN drops?
How does the user know they have bad settings?
Not everyone is a network guru (I’m a noob)

I’m sorry…thats usually a response I get when somebody goes out on a limb and says things like…and I quote “The only reason a VPN/Proxy should not work, would be because the user had made some wrong/bad settings.” Which translates to “I’m a tool.” in most dialects. If you find a service in the software or networking field with a 100% user/equipment compatibility rate you are clearly not using the same internet as the rest of us. That being said, no vpn is detection proof, hence its a good idea to check occasionally to insure success. And yes, ip blocking has been proven to be successful in over 60% of tested instances. When more people realize they aren’t infallible in their genius we’ll start seeing a stronger internet. Until then, do what you can to keep yourselves safe.
