How Torrents Can Ruin Your Life

piratesEvery week thousands of people receive threatening emails form their ISPs, warning them that they’ve been caught downloading copyrighted material. It usually stays with a warning, but not for Sandy Johnson. Torrents ruined her life.

Meet Sandy, a girl who was caught downloading CSI: Miami and got disconnected from the Internet by her ISP. And that’s only the beginning of her misfortune.

Flash forward another month and I get notified that I am being prosecuted for copyright infringement. Uh oh. I use the majority of my savings to retain an attorney. He advises me that we should try to cut a deal or I could end up paying millions in fines. I don’t have millions!

My boyfriend decides he doesn’t want to be involved with a criminal and leaves me. He didn’t seem to have a problem when I was downloading music for him. Hypocrite.

The rest of this horror story is posted under the pseudonym Sandy Johnson at a newly created blog. Interestingly all this drama didn’t deter her from using BitTorrent. However, she does TorrentPrivacy to protect herself now.

And that might shed some light on the origin of the author. Sandy is not real nor is the $100,000 fine she mentions. It’s an ad!

LOL FAIL. Torrents awesome-ized my life.

  • good ad idea though!

  • It could be a good advertisement if you believe that “any publicity is GOOD publicity.” I don’t happen to, though. LOL, FAIL, LIES, etc.

  • i dont think companies should say that sharing/obtaining the equivalent of a videotaped episode, that played on the tube free of charge, could lead to criminalization and bankrupcy. unfortunatly, all those nitwits on facebook will probably think it’s the truth.
    cruddy.

    • Anyone that would even begin to believe that BS has got to be the most gullible on the planet!…

I agree, downloading TV shows that were aired for everyone (that wants to) to view in the first place would be the weakest case against “piracy” ever invented…would fall into the catagory of “Frivolous Lawsuits”
The accusers should be punished for wasting the courts time!!

    Good ad idea though,
Hahaha, I actually checked the site out
    Its expensive as shit though,
Almost a hundred bucks for a year, it deson’t seem to bad until you realize that most companies only go after $150 or so when they sue people for pirating…So you minus well just risk it :p
If they lowered the price though, it’d be nice

    • i believe the phrase is “might as well”.

    • lawl!! epic grammar fail………..

      • minus well lol
        hahahhaha wow

excellent ad concept. drew me in from torrentfreak.
TOR is free though. slows down the transfer but anonymizes your packets.

    • Don’t use TOR. It’s not made for that. To you it’s just a slower download, to the people providing, you’re a waste of bandwidth. TOR isn’t designed to handle traffic that heavy.

      • Quit talking out of yer ass, bozeman is using TOR for *Exactly* what it was designed for…
im using it right now, and I have it configured for my torrent client as well….

These days we all need more internet condoms, LoL, keeps those filthy anti piracy diseases away!!

You know what the RIAA should do? Make an ad like this.

Except that they would have poor Sandy saying that it was because piracy was wrong.

  • life is not worth living w/o torrents.

    • Is that proxy to block your IP, help browse, or what?

    • Looks like it just gets you around blocks in certain countries. Until they find out about it.

Yea, in my country my isp has blocked all access to tpb this is the same for other countries aswell. Soo if you use this site, tpb is loaded within it bypassing all blocks that the isp has put in place. Blocking tpb is futile with a great site like this available to us! haha
