Have Your Private Photos Leaked Via P2P?

Many file-sharing applications have a ‘shared folder’ – a folder on your PC whose contents can be shared with anyone else on the same network. However,  either through naivety  or accident, some people share more than they intended.

The Foundphotos.net project started back in 2004. After its creator downloaded a folder of MP3s from a file-sharing network, he unexpectedly discovered another folder inside named ‘pictures’.

The folder contained private digital photos which whetted his appetite to go hunting for others. His searches led to the discovery of thousands more, which can now be found on the FoundPhotos site.

“The FoundPhotos Archives consist of my filtered view from thousands of images downloaded via peer to peer filesharing networks, updated semi-regularly,” says its creator.

Some of them are hilarious, some unusual, but all of them provoking thoughts of “who, where, when?” – even “why?”
