Canadian Copyright Consultation Extended

canadaCanada is planning to reform its copyright law and if the entertainment industries have their way, the rights and privacy of consumers will be thrown overboard. That is, unless Canadians have their voices heard.

Last week, TorrentFreak reported on the Canadian copyright consultation which was scheduled to conclude this past weekend. Canadians were being squeezed by the recording and movie industry associations on the one side (seeking a Canadian DMCA and three strikes and you’re out policies) and copyright collectives on the other (seeking new levies on iPods and Internet usage).

If you missed last night’s deadline, there is still time to learn more and craft your own submission, use a form letter, or send out a quick email. The government has just announced that there is a 48 hour extension on submissions to the copyright consultation.

While the discussion forum has closed, Canadians now have until Tuesday night to submit their views on copyright. There were many new submissions of note posted online over the weekend including Canadian-based isoHunt.  If you are Canadian, you’ve got two days to ensure that your voice is heard.

Please tell all your Canadian friends to help out!
