Antichrist Shocks Cannes, Now Shocks BitTorrent

Audiences were shocked last Sunday when horror/torture porn movie ‘Antichrist’ screened at the Cannes film festival. Most audiences will have to wait until until October 23rd to watch the scenes of genital mutilation. Not so BitTorrent users.

Ever since the Saw movies sort-of introduced ‘torture horror’ to the mainstream (it had been done before, but for smaller audiences) there have been many pretenders – the Hostel movies for example – but there is a new guy in town.

This weekend a shocked audience at the Cannes film festival saw the latest addition to the genre,  ‘Antichrist’ starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe. As far as I can make out from this summary by NYMag, it doesn’t sound particularly pleasant, unless you like sexual mutilation of course.

It’s doubtful if all the dubious scenes will make the final cinema version in various countries around the world, but that’s moot if you have a BitTorrent client and know how to search for the movie.

A decent quality DVD Screener of ‘Antichrist’ has been leaked (with an on-screen timer for those very picky downloaders) which is claiming to be completely uncensored.

Having read the review, and having seen a sample of another very recent Japanese movie called ‘Grotesque’ – which is also very sickening and yes, also available uncensored via BitTorrent, i’m wondering if bypassing the censors in this way is always a good thing.

In years gone by and mainly out of curiosity, i’ve seen many a grisly movie courtesy of awful VHS tapes and more recently P2P networks, including the notorious Guinea Pig series, Faces of Death series and others along those lines. I couldn’t resist the temptation – call it a symptom of a mis-spent youth.

But now, older and hopefully wiser, i’m sort of glad that there are people out there who can filter out some of the more extreme stuff since to be honest, I can’t un-see some of the things I viewed in those films. At the time I didn’t mind, but now I realize I really could’ve done without it – my life hasn’t be enriched by seeing those scenes.

That said, younger and more enthusiastic folk than I will likely flood to see the uncensored Antichrist to see what all the fuss is about. Let’s hope it’s not that bad after all, and no-one regrets it.

Can censorship sometimes be a good thing? For me, yes, sometimes. But only when i’ve had a chance to review the stuff myself first before someone makes the decision for me, which makes it kind of tricky.

    Censorship is ALWAYS bad.

    • This article is a load of poorly written shite. Why on earth are Von Trier’s films being compared to horror films like Hostel and Saw? Antichrist is evidently not in the same boat (perhaps you’d know this if you had actually watched the film, not read a review; why pass an opinion on something you’ve not experienced yourself?) just because it has scenes of gore. Many other films have previously had shocking scenes such as Straw Dogs or Irreversible without a poor, lazy and sensationalist comparison needing to be made.

A piece of fiction is quite different to things like the Faces of Death series, known for depicting actual murders.

And a torrent site advocating censorship is ridiculous, considering the hack jobs and know all attitude that renders it useless. People who are likely to encounter the material should be the ones to decide if it’s suitable, not distant organisations. Such conservatism from something that is meant to be radical is laughable.

    • Sorry for replying to you bombpersons!

it certainly isn’t bad to have things rated and simply different versions for different people, but as above, censorship is ALWAYS bad.

  • Looking forward to watching this tonight!

  • Well, Antichrist is actually more of an art-movie, than horror-movie. The director, Lars Von Trier, is in his homecountry Denmark, known for his experimental and insane movies.

  • If you do not want to see these things then this movie is not for you; You should not ask the network to remake the movie for you. I remember seeing American history x on some cable network and it was about 40 minutes long.

  • Well looks like torrents drive a coach and horses through censorship whether people like it or not!

  • you sick people should repent before it’s too late.. all this movies are the work of none other than Satan, the lord of deception, who is playin with your weak minds..

  • ALL forms of censorship are unacceptable.

    BTW:

ALL religions are manmade silly nonsense, concocted by morons in order to control idiots.
It works very well due to the billions of primitive infantile superstitious idiots on planet earth.

  • Lol this entire movie should be censored, the worst piece of sh’t I’ve ever watched :p

  • Learn to capitalize ‘i’

  • I really don’t know what to think about the first 6 minutes of this film. It left myself and a buddy just kinda sitting there trying to figure out what we had just seen. The rest should be quite interesting.
