Anti-Piracy Propaganda: To Catch a Pirate
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) – a trade group representing Microsoft, Apple and several other software companies – has launched a new video campaign titled: ‘To Catch a Pirate’ in which it celebrates police brutality with a reference to pedophiles.
In the video the ‘to catch a pirate’ team uses a decoy to trap a ‘real sicko’ software pirate. When they do the police comes in to knock him down and cuff him up, just like that.
Even more sickening is the reference to Dateline NBC’s “To Catch a Predator” where suspected pedophiles or ‘sexual predators’ were lured to meer with a decoy after an online chat.
The BSA is known for its aggressive tactics. Several years ago they introduced the ‘Bust Your Boss’ campaign, asking employers to report their former employers if they were using pirated software.
The intention of the current campaign is less obvious. It seems like they hope to create some kind of viral video, hoping to shift the public opinion. However, the clip is so absurd that it may very well result in the opposite effect.
It is kind of surprising that they didn’t use a taser to knock the pirate out, that would have been brilliant.

Anti-Piracy Propaganda? Please. If you’re gonna go after an industry such as pirating, please come up with an original idea instead of rip off a television show that has nothing to do with the subject matter. Plus, that guys no Chris Hanson, I mean lets be honest. I give this video two limp boners down.

I see what they are trying to say, and that is do not profit from pirated software. However the website name no piracy, and their attitude on the matter leads me to believe that they want ZERO piracy which is bullshit.
If I like it I’ll buy it, If I wanna use it in some way to make profit I will buy it/license it, but I will support only piracy without profit from the pirated material, because piracy is about setting aside profits and sharing material freely.

Anyone notice the low blow about having to feed his parrot? Authority arrested a man in charge of a bittorent site (I cant remember the site specifically) and he wanted to call someone to feed his dogs and they wouldnt let him. We need a bill of rights of some sort, protection from greed.
